Our Mission:

It is the Mission of The Ballot Box to provide a place where YOU can make your voice heard by VOTING on local issues and making your voice HEARD to your elected representatives so that they will have a clearer picture of the popular Will of The People who put them in office.

It is also the Mission of The Ballot Box to provide a service to local communities to take e-polls and present issues to be voted upon by The People in their communities.

Why The Ballot Box?

There are those who believe that the proper role for Americans is to vote and then shut up, go to sleep and comply with whatever our elected representatives want to do, whether good, bad or ugly.

At The Ballot box, it is our fervent conviction that "Eternal Vigilance IS The Price of Freedom." It is also our conviction that it is the Sacred Duty of every American to be Eternally Vigilant with regard to what our elected representative do, do not do and propose to do.

Too often, candidates want to hear from everyone when they are running for office. But, once a representative is elected, they stop listening to "the people" and begin listening to their staff, to their fellow representatives and to select groups of people - made up of special interest groups and political "insiders".

This disconnect from The People can lead to projects, ordinances, programs and events that are plainly out of touch with the popular Will of The People. In extreme cases, this lack of oversight by The People can also lead to graft and corruption.

We at The Ballot Box recognize and honor our Representative system of Democracy. To be fair, most good elected representatives really do want to hear from The People. Many of them are distressed by the lack of attendance at their meetings and the lack of participation on the part of citizens.

All too often you have heard local politicians say that they heard from only a small number of people who were in favor (or against) a proposal, when the majority of busy people who didn't have time to attend endless meetings strongly disagree but are unheard.

Most homeowners and residents have jobs and and families and children to raise and have little the time to attend workshops, hearings or City Council meetings. Most citizens have no time, no desire and often do not want to spend the money required to join the local "insider" clubs. Finally most Americans are deeply offended by elected representatives who act as if they are Lords of a kingdom and citizens are merely surfs. Most Americans simply will not bow or scrape to "court the favor" of their elected representatives - who are SUPPOSED to be our public servants.

The Ballot Box is a place where all citizens can Vote their Conscience anonymously in the privacy of own homes and make the Popular Will of The People be heard by our elected representatives.

Please Note

Some will insist that the polls and votes cast on The Ballot Box are not "scientific" polls because we do not poll the public and only those who are interested come to the site and vote. We freely acknowledge that our polls are not "scientific" polls and can only be taken as indications of the public Will.

Others will complain that the votes that are cast on The Ballot Box are also invalid because they are "self-selecting." We respectfully disagree on this point. In most cities, less than 30 percent of the People vote. Such votes are also "self-selecting" and yet, they are valid.

Whether "scientifically" valid or not, the votes on Ballot Box are an important source of information regarding the Public Will.

Are we "saints" and will we always be perfectly impartial. No. We have our points of view and they cannot help but have an influence on our writing of questions and the way we set up the site. The difference between us and the "scientific" polls, is that we freely acknowledge our leanings. All that we can promise is that we will endeavor to be as fair as "non-saints" can be and will let you know when we feel that we can't be "saintly-fair." If you find another poll that will say that, or do it - please email us and let us know who they are. One reason we started "The Ballot Box" is because we couldn't find one.

With that in mind - enjoy casting your vote. It is your Right, your Privilege and your Duty.
